Improving Hand and Wrist Activity Detection Using Tactile Sensors and Tensor Regression Methods on Riemannian Manifolds

چکیده
Simultaneous and proportional control of a prosthetic hand and wrist is still a challenging issue, although giant steps have lately been made in this direction. In this paper, we study the application of a novel machine learning method to the problem, with the aim to potentially improve such control. Namely we apply different kernels for tensor Gaussian process regression to data obtained from an advanced, flexible tactile sensor applied on the skin, recording muscle bulging in the forearm. The sensor is a modular, compact bracelet comprising 320 highly sensitive elements organized as a tactile array. The usage of kernel functions with tensor arguments and kernel distances computed on Riemannian manifolds enables us to account for the underlying structure and geometry of the tactile data. Regression accuracy results obtained on data previously collected using the bracelet demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach, especially when using Euclidean distance and KullbackLeibler divergence-based kernels.

On a class of paracontact Riemannian manifold
We classify the paracontact Riemannian manifolds that their Riemannian curvature satisfies in the certain condition and we show that this classification is hold for the special cases semi-symmetric and locally symmetric spaces. Finally we study paracontact Riemannian manifolds satisfying R(X, ξ).S = 0, where S is the Ricci tensor.
متن کاملA Geometry Preserving Kernel over Riemannian Manifolds
Abstract- Kernel trick and projection to tangent spaces are two choices for linearizing the data points lying on Riemannian manifolds. These approaches are used to provide the prerequisites for applying standard machine learning methods on Riemannian manifolds. Classical kernels implicitly project data to high dimensional feature space without considering the intrinsic geometry of data points. ...
متن کاملACTION OF SEMISIMPLE ISOMERY GROUPS ON SOME RIEMANNIAN MANIFOLDS OF NONPOSITIVE CURVATURE
A manifold with a smooth action of a Lie group G is called G-manifold. In this paper we consider a complete Riemannian manifold M with the action of a closed and connected Lie subgroup G of the isometries. The dimension of the orbit space is called the cohomogeneity of the action. Manifolds having actions of cohomogeneity zero are called homogeneous. A classic theorem about Riemannian manifolds...
متن کاملCombining Electromyography and Tactile Myography to Improve Hand and Wrist Activity Detection in Prostheses
Despite recent advances in prosthetics and assistive robotics in general, robust simultaneous and proportional control of dexterous prosthetic devices remains an unsolved problem, mainly because of inadequate sensorization. In this paper, we study the application of regression to muscle activity, detected using a flexible tactile sensor recording muscle bulging in the forearm (tactile myography...
متن کاملOn some generalized recurrent manifolds
The object of the present paper is to introduce and study a type of non-flat semi-Riemannian manifolds, called, super generalized recurrent manifolds which generalizes both the notion of hyper generalized recurrent manifolds [A.A. Shaikh and A. Patra, On a generalized class of recurrent manifolds, Arch. Math. (Brno) 46 (2010) 71--78.] and weakly generalized recurrent manifolds ...
